‘Memoriographia’ – a book of poems released in Guwahati

Performing artist and poet, rōzumāri samsāra (Rosemary Kikon) released her book of poems ‘memoriographia’ at Agora the Space in the Anuradha Cinema Complex, Guwahati on February 25, 2020. The book is published by Heritage Publishers, Dimapur and released by noted writer and translator, Prof. Tilotomma Misra. The book launch opened with the performance of a spoken word poem on the poet’s memory of growing up with her siblings in 74 Duncan Bosti, Dimapur. Speaking on the occasion, the publisher Dr. Lanusangla Tzudir of Heritage Publication House, said that producing the book of poems was an important part of the company’s efforts to highlight the cutting edge work of women writers from the Naga ancestral domain. In a conversation with the publisher, Prof. Misra said that samsāra’s book of poems symbolised the rapid development of literature and writing from Northeast India. She believed that in mastering their command over English, women from the Northeast had taken the oral histories and narratives of their communities to a universal stage in a manner that needed to be commended.

rōzumāri samsāra is the stage name of Rosemary Kikon, who is a trained social worker who has worked with the UN and other international NGOs working on disaster relief across the world. She was born in Nagaland and now lives in the United States and Germany.”
